The Programme

This new qualification will develop the learners’ awareness of relevant legislation and procedures that have an impact on health and safety responsibilities in the workplace.

There is a mandatory requirement for employers, under the Health and Safety at Work Act, that they provide appropriate training which enables staff to complete their job role safely. Any employee whose job role includes moving and handling must be trained.

Course Content:

Pathway 1

Mandatory: Introducing Moving and Handling
The unit introduces the learner to the principles of safer moving and handling and how inappropriate activities or techniques may lead to back injuries.

Optional: Moving and Handling Objects
The unit develops the learners understanding of the importance of carrying out risk assessment to reduce the possibility of injury during moving and handling operations.

Pathway 2

Mandatory: Introducing Moving and Handling
The unit introduces the learner to the principles of safer moving and handling and how inappropriate activities or techniques may lead to back injuries

Optional: Moving and Handling Individuals
The unit develops the learner’s ability to carry out the moving and handling of individuals with respect and dignity. They will also learn to use appropriate moving and handling techniques and apply these to a variety of situations involving moving people.
